new beginnings, yet again
Saturday, October 19

So I recently started a course on Wednesday for the last phase of my NS life. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be much of a challenge, but I quickly realised that everyone there knew each other while I didn't know a single one, as they'd all been at the same training course last year (all 150+ of them) while I hadn't (since I had taken a long route and joined a later batch). So there I was, trying in vain to make small talk while the rest of them happily caught up with each other's lives.

To make matters worse, I found out that I'd been one of the 17 unlucky people chosen to attend an extra mortar course - one which was known to be physically and mentally challenging, and was to happen while the others would enjoy free off days before their release from NS. Talk about a double whammy.

So while doing QT that night, I was busy rationalising the terrible state of my situation: why would anyone want to get to know someone new when they were already surrounded by friends? how could I escape from that stupid course? But I just felt Him impress upon me - "don't worry; learn my unforced rhythms of Grace" (which, interestingly, was also yesterday's CG verse!). And the next morning too, came Tabby's sharing in the Spark Act WhatsApp chat about not dwelling on our cares and instead turning our eyes on Jesus, which was SUPER MEGA in season. And I was just like, "Okay God, you say one ah!"

So after that, I only struck up conversations when I felt His peace and prompting or when people started the conversation, and those were the ones that moved beyond small talk! What's more, I later found out that the ones I had made great connections with were the ones that had their beds next to mine in the bunk O.O And the final icing on the cake - just yesterday I was told that I'd been taken out of the extra course because it was surfaced that I was excused from Grenades & Explosives, thanks to my insanely sweaty palms (which I will be healed of in Jesus' name!). Woohoo!!!!!!

Don't be fixated on your troubles, my friends, but turn your eyes upon Jesus! (: He'll always take care of you! Love y'all many many!

AMEN;
